Sclerotherapy

A procedure indicated for the treatment of venous diseases. We use this method to combat varicose veins of the lower extremities.

Essence of the procedure

The procedure involves the injection of a special medication—sclerosant—into the lumen of the diseased vein. Doctors at the “Medical Center ‘Zhyttia’” perform this type of varicose vein treatment under ultrasound guidance, which allows for more precise and safe elimination of disease manifestations.

How is sclerotherapy performed?

Sclerotherapy is performed without anesthesia, so the patient can quickly return to their usual lifestyle after the procedure. The injection of the medication is generally not accompanied by painful sensations. Occasionally, the patient may report a slight feeling of fullness or burning in the vein, but these sensations pass very quickly. After the injection of the sclerosing medication, compression medical stockings are applied.

Result

The result of sclerotherapy is the complete closure of the varicose vein, followed by its resorption. The procedure is simple, safe, and provides high therapeutic and cosmetic efficacy. This is achieved through the use of special ultra-thin needles and microcatheters. During sclerotherapy, the skin is not damaged because the manipulation does not require the use of scalpels or other cutting instruments. The cosmetic and therapeutic results of the procedure last a long time. However, it is important to note that in advanced forms of varicose veins, sclerotherapy does not provide complete recovery.

Recommendations for the rehabilitation period

After the procedure, the patient should follow these recommendations:

  • Walk outdoors for 1–2 hours daily for a week.
  • Wear compression stockings for a certain period.
  • Avoid driving for 2–3 hours after sclerotherapy, as the medication used contains ethanol.
  • Refrain from visiting baths, saunas, and thermal pools for some time after the procedure.
  • Avoid sports activities for three days.
