Compression knitwear
Compression therapy is the cornerstone of prevention and treatment for varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency.
Wearing compression stockings helps create optimal conditions for normalizing venous outflow from the lower extremities, reduces the load on the venous system of the legs, and prevents venous stasis. Compression stockings are selected individually (based on measurements). The key requirement is their correspondence to the anatomical profile of the limb, ensuring the proper pressure gradient. Medical-grade products are labeled in mmHg and classified into compression classes 1, 2, 3, and 4. Each compression class corresponds to a specific pressure. Depending on the stage of varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency, the appropriate compression class is selected. This is why only a doctor can prescribe and correctly fit compression stockings, considering the pathology and individual measurements.
Compression stockings are divided into therapeutic and preventive types.
Uses of Compression Stockings:
- Improving venous and lymphatic outflow from the lower extremities.
- Enhancing microcirculation.
- Slowing the progression of the disease.
- Preventing complications of varicose veins, such as:
- Thrombophlebitis.
- Trophic disorders.
- Preventing deep vein thrombosis.
Preventive use of compression stockings
- During Pregnancy: The venous system of the lower extremities experiences significant stress during pregnancy, with varicose veins often manifesting during the first pregnancy.
- Occupational Risks: Professions requiring prolonged standing (e.g., teachers, hairdressers, surgeons, waiters) increase the risk of developing varicose veins.
- Travel: Long flights or bus trips pose a high risk of deep vein thrombosis, even in healthy individuals. Using compression stockings during travel is a wise choice.
- Sports: Intense sports activities, especially those involving weights, benefit from compression stockings.
Therapeutic use of compression stockings
- Alleviating "Heavy Legs" Syndrome: Reduces heaviness and swelling, improving overall quality of life.
- During Phlebologist Treatment: Used after surgery or sclerotherapy for a duration prescribed by the specialist.
- Slowing Disease Progression: Helps manage the progression of varicose syndrome.
- Treating Complications: Effective in managing complications like thrombophlebitis.
